LEWISTON, Maine — Two Lewiston men were charged with arson Friday night in connection with the latest Lewiston fires that destroyed two vacant apartment houses on Bartlett Street early Monday morning.
Arrested by the state fire marshal’s office were Brian Morin, 29, and Bryan Wood, 23, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said in a news release issued as a news conference conducted by Lewiston police and fire officials and the fire marshal’s office got underway at the Lewiston Police Department.
Wood lives at 131 Bartlett St. and Morin, who is a transient, has been staying with Wood in recent days, McCausland said. Each are charged with three counts of arson and were taken to the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn.
Both are expected to make their initial court appearances Monday or Tuesday.
If convicted, each man faces a maximum of 30 years in prison for each count of arson, McCausland said at the news conference.
The arrests announced during Friday night’s news conference are not connected with the two other fires that have taken place in the city over the last 11 days, leaving more than 170 people homeless.
In a previous version of this story, Bryan Wood’s name was misspelled as Brian.
