Social Security announces most popular baby names for 2012

Jacob and Sophia are repeat champions as America’s most popular baby names, based on births in 2012, the Social Security Administration announced Thursday. It was the 14th year in a row Jacob topped the list for boys and the second year for Sophia.

Two new names cracked the top 10 — Elizabeth and Liam replaced Chloe and Daniel. Elizabeth had been here before, but this is the first time Liam made it into the top 10. For all the top baby names of 2012, visit Social Security’s website at www.socialsecurity.gov.

Here are the top 10 boys and girls names for 2012:

Boys:

4) Noah

5) William

6) Liam

7) Jayden

8) Michael

9) Alexander

10) Aiden

Girls:

1) Sophia

2) Emma

3) Isabella

4) Olivia

5) Ava

6) Emily

7) Abigail

8) Mia

9) Madison

10) Elizabeth
