Fire heavily damages Winterport garage Friday night

By Judy Harrison, BDN Staff

WINTERPORT, Maine —- A fire Friday night heavily damaged a two-story, unattached garage at 38 Hackett Road, according to the Winterport fire chief.

The state fire marshal’s office has been asked to determine the cause, Chief Thomas Doe said Saturday.

“I suspect it’s electrical,” Doe said.

No one was injured and no other buildings were threatened by the blaze, the chief said. A bulldozer and truck in the garage sustained minimal damage.

The fire was reported at 8:45 p.m. Friday and under control in about 30 minutes. Crews and tanker trucks from Hampden and Frankfort also responded.

The garage, owned by Ted and Phyllis Clewley, sustained an estimated $10,000 in damage, according to Doe. Most of the damage was to the second floor and roof.
