STONINGTON, Maine — State police are asking the public to help find a local man wanted in connection with a sex crime against a teen girl.

Jamie Cox, 36, of Stonington is wanted on three felony charges of unlawful sexual contact after he was indicted by a Hancock County grand jury earlier this month, Maine State Police spokesman Stephen McCausland said in an email Friday.

Cox is 5 feet, 10 inches tall with brown hair and blue eyes, weighing about 200 pounds. The Ellsworth Police Department said in a Facebook post that Cox was seen in Ellsworth on Thursday, and state police suspect he is somewhere in Hancock County, likely staying with friends.

Police ask anyone with information about Cox’s whereabouts to call the state police barracks in Orono at 866-2122.

Depending on the age of the victim and her relationship with Cox, the charges are either Class B or Class A crimes. The strictest punishment for unlawful sexual contact is a maximum of 30 years in a prison and a $50,000 fine.

To reach a sexual assault advocate, call the Statewide Sexual Assault Crisis and Support Line at 800-871-7741, TTY 888-458-5599. This free and confidential 24-hour service is accessible from anywhere in Maine. Calls are automatically routed to the closest sexual violence service provider.
