Driver with 22 traffic convictions arrested in Northfield crash

NORTHFIELD, Maine — One person was slightly injured in a single-vehicle crash on Route 192 at the Northfield-Wesley town line at around 8:20 a.m. The driver, who police said had 22 previous traffic convictions, was arrested and charged with operating under the influence.

Washington County Sheriff’s Deputy Steven Ramsey said Calvin Snider, 25, of Machias, was operating a 2004 Silver Hundai when he lost control, left the road and crashed into woods. Snider’s previous convictions were all traffic related, Ramsey said, and there were no previous OUI convictions. The vehicle was registered to a family member, Ramsey said.

There were two passengers, a male and female, in the car, and the trio had been coming home from Calais, Ramsey said. The female was uninjured but the male was taken to Down East Community Hospital by Machias Ambulance to be treated for a cut above his eye.

Ramsey said he was assisted at the scene by Sgt. Brandon Parker of the WCSO and Forest Ranger Aaron Currier.
