Charges filed against driver after car crashes into Kora Shrine Temple in Lewiston

LEWISTON, Maine — A vehicle crashed into the Kora Shrine Temple on Sabattus Street on Sunday night, resulting in a charge of operating under the influence and a totaled vehicle.

According to Sgt. Roger Landry of the Lewiston Police Department, Nicholas Beauchesne, 27, of Lewiston was charged after the Chevrolet Malibu he was driving left the roadway and hit the building.

Beauchesne was the only occupant of the vehicle and was uninjured when he was arrested at the accident scene.

The Lewiston Fire Department went to the scene of the accident to assist and remove debris from the face of the mostly undamaged granite wall.

According to Landry, details of the accident are still under investigation.
