Altercation outside Orono bar ends with two men under arrest

By Ryan McLaughlin, BDN Staff

ORONO, Maine — An altercation between two men that started at the Bear Brew pub and spilled into the parking lot concluded with both under arrest early Friday, according to police.

Orono police Officers Chris Watson and Sarah Exley were observing patrons leaving the Bear Brew pub and the nearby Roost bar around 1:20 a.m. when Nicholas Jacobs, 23, and Alberto Moreno, 21, both of Orono, were spotted fighting in front of the Roost entrance, Orono police Sgt. Scott Lajoie said.

The officers quickly ran over and separated the pair, the sergeant said.

“Moreno said he had been inside the Bear Brew and Nicholas had been calling him names all night,” said Lajoie.

The dispute between the pair apparently started again when the two men saw each other outside.

Jacobs told police that Moreno had been harassing a woman and a few other of Jacobs’ friends inside the club, and Jacobs had told Moreno to stop bothering the woman, the sergeant said.

Jacobs also told police he started hitting Moreno after he believed Moreno punched a friend of his.

Both suspects were arrested for disorderly conduct and brought to Penobscot County Jail, the sergeant said. Both men have been released on bail.
