Presque Isle Historical Society to celebrate Founder’s Day

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — In continuation of the celebration marking the Presque Isle Historical Society’s 50th anniversary, members of the organization will join city officials on Saturday to commemorate Founder’s Day (in honor of Dennis Fairbanks, the founder of the community now known as Presque Isle, who was born on April 16).

“In celebrating the kickoff of our 50th Anniversary Celebration, Saturday, April 13, has been declared Founder’s Day by resolution of the City Council,” said Kim Smith, treasurer for the Historical Society.

The public is invited to join in marking the occasion which will feature some special events beginning early Saturday.

“Join the Presque Isle Historical Society at 9 a.m. for a city-wide historic tour aboard Molly the Trolley beginning at the Historic Fire Station at 11 Church St.,” said Smith.

Reservations are required and can be made by calling 762-6300.

“Then at noon, there will be a reading of the proclamations from city council, the state Legislature and the governor on the upper level parking lot of the Historic Fire Station,” said Smith.

“At 12:15 p.m. there will be an Antique Car Show and Car Wash, with donations accepted,” said Smith.

Activities continue into the afternoon.
