Search for missing Lewiston man continues

By Ryan McLaughlin, BDN Staff

LEWISTON, Maine — Efforts continued Thursday to locate a Lewiston man who has been missing since last week.

Police said Daniel Doherty, 46, was last heard from around 11:15 p.m. last Friday when he had a conversation with his girlfriend.

“She said he sounded depressed,” Lewiston police Lt. Michael McGonagle said.

Doherty’s vehicle was found on the Veterans Bridge, which spans Lewiston and Auburn, late Friday night, with some of his belongings also in the car, McGonagle said.

The lieutenant said Doherty’s cellphone isn’t believed to have been used since he last was heard from.

Auburn police, the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office and game wardens have been assisting in the search, McGonagle said. A crew from the Downeast Emergency Medicine Institute planned to leave Bangor and head south Thursday afternoon to assist, according to DEEMI’s Facebook page.

Anyone with information about Doherty’s location should contact Lewiston police Detective Wayne Clifford at 591-3001, ext. 3320
