HOLDEN, Maine — A Holden police officer sent to check on the well-being of a woman staying at a local motel early Monday morning wound up filing drug charges against a man who was with her.
Murray S. Varney, 48, of Holden was charged with possession of scheduled drugs, possession of a usable amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia after 30 clonazepam pills, five small bags of marijuana and drug paraphernalia were found in his possession, said Officer Chris Greeley, who handled the call.
Varney did not have the required prescriptions for the drugs, Greeley said.
Greeley said he, along with emergency rescue personnel, visited the woman’s room at the Town’n Country Motel on Main Road after the woman’s mother asked that someone check up on her daughter.
While she had been drinking, the woman did not require medical attention, Greeley said.
