BUCKFIELD, Maine — A Buckfield man is being held at Oxford County Jail after he allegedly shot his live-in girlfriend in the neck early Monday evening.

Scott Ackley, 41, has been charged with domestic violence assault, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said in a news release issued Monday night.

The 38-year-old woman was taken by LifeFlight helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston and is expected to survive, McCausland said.

According to McCausland, Maine State Police troopers were called to the couple’s home at 51 Depot St. around 5 p.m. after receiving a report about the shooting. The Sun Journal of Lewiston reported that Oxford County sheriff’s deputies also went to the scene of the shooting.

Two teenage boys who were at the house when the shooting occurred were not injured.

Police interviewed several neighbors before seating them in a police vehicle. A neighbor two houses down said he hadn’t heard anything.

A team of detectives continues to investigate the shooting, conduct interviews and planned to search the couple’s home Monday night for evidence related to the violence.
