BREWER, DEDHAM AND MARLBORO – Esther Ford Kennett, 88, passed April 1, 2013, at her daughter’s house in Brewer, after several years of battling kidney disease. She was born Dec. 3, 1924, in Lamoine.
She graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1943 and in 1947 from Maine School of Commerce, now Husson University, where she was a member of Epsilon Delta sorority. She enjoyed gardening, snowmobiling, volunteering at the Dedham school library and providing Thanksgiving baskets to the less fortunate. She especially enjoyed taking walks on Marlboro Beach to pick up sea glass, shells and rocks. One of her favorite things to do was to read the Bangor Daily News, and critique and discuss with her family all of the most interesting stories, never being shy to express her opinionated, and often hilarious, take on the day’s news. Esther’s family was the most important parts of her life. Esther was the youngest and last of eight Ford family children from Marlboro.
She was predeceased by her parents, Wesley and Ona Googins Ford; husband of 55 years, Roland F. Kennett; son-in-law, Paul E. Gervais; brothers-in-laws, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. She is survived by her three children, David Kennett and wife, Deb, of Parkman, Nancy Campbell of Fryeburg, and Martha Gervais of Brewer; as well as four grandchildren, Josh Campbell and wife, Michelle, and their children, Connor and McKayla, of New Hampshire, Jared Campbell and wife, Tanya, and their children, Whitney, Evva and Chase, of Massachusetts, Paul Gervais Jr. of Dedham, and Alex Gervais and girlfriend, Megan Bishop, of Brewer. Esther and the family thank the staff at Kindred Rehabilitation; Bangor Area Visiting Nurses; Dr. Riker and Joanne of Bangor Internal Medicine; and Lorri and Spencer, her “rays of sunshine” of Boyd Dialysis Center. Esther also wanted to thank her nieces, Anne and her husband, George Smith, Jan Campbell and Renie Ford, for everything they did to make her life special.
As Esther requested, there will be no funeral service. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, Veazie. A celebration of her life will be held “when it is warm and dry.” In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Husson University Annual Fund, Advancement Office, 1 College Circle, Bangor, ME 04401. Arrangements by Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, Bangor and Brewer. Condolences to her family may be offered at www.kileyandfoley.com.
