WINDHAM, Maine — An Aroostook County man who was serving time at the Maine Correctional Center was found dead in the facility at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The Department of Corrections confirmed the death of Garrett J. Brewer, 35, of Presque Isle. No details about how Brewer died were released.
Both the Maine State Police and the Maine Medical Examiner’s Office are reviewing the death, according to a corrections official.
“His death is under active investigation,” Scott Fish, director of special projects for the Department of Corrections, said.
The Attorney General’s Office was notified of the death.
At the time of his death, Brewer had served approximately 66 days of a nine-month sentence for trafficking of scheduled drugs, according to the DOC.
According to a court listing in the BDN on May 13, 2012, Brewer was indicted by an Aroostook County grand jury on two counts of unlawful trafficking in methamphetamine.
Correction: An earlier version of this story contained an error. Garrett J. Brewer was indicted by an Aroostook County grand jury on two counts of unlawful trafficking in methamphetamine, not Scott Fish.
