Louisville’s Kevin Ware suffered a grotesque-looking injury in the first half of Sunday’s NCAA tournament game against Duke.

Ware jumped out to contest a 3-pointer with 6:33 left in the first half and snapped his lower right leg when he landed. He was writhing in pain in front of the Louisville bench.

He was carted off on a stretcher, and a Louisville spokesman said he was taken to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

Teammates and coach Rick Pitino were visibly shaken, and the injury led to a lengthy stoppage in play.

Ware is averaging 4.6 points this season and scored 11 points in the victory over Oregon on Friday.
