Man charged after allegedly hitting ex-girlfriend during argument

BANGOR, Maine — A 28-year-old Bangor man was arrested and charged with domestic violence and obstructing the report of a crime after an argument with his ex-girlfriend outside a Pushaw Road residence early Wednesday morning.

According to a preliminary police report filed by Bangor Officer Gary Decker, he and other officers responded to a call concerning a family fight at 2:18 a.m. Wednesday. After talking to a man and woman at the scene, Decker and other officers who responded decided to arrest Mickey Mitton.
“A 30-year-old woman, who is apparently Mitton’s ex-girlfriend, reported being hit on the right side of her face,” said Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards. “There was apparently visible evidence of that as her right ear was quite red.”

The woman also told officers that Mitton took her phone and went inside the home after she threatened to call the police.

Mitton was arrested without incident and taken to Penobscot County Jail, where he remained overnight. He made an initial court appearance at Penobscot Judicial Center Wednesday afternoon and was released on $500 bail. He was assigned a May 14 court date.
