BENTON, Maine — A single-vehicle accident tied up Interstate 95 traffic Monday evening and sent five people to hospitals, according to police.

Nathan Manning-Harris, 28, of Easton was headed north in a 2002 Pontiac when his vehicle left the roadway and flipped over in the median, according to Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland.

Manning-Harris had four passengers in the vehicle: Alberto Vasquez, 34, Shelagh Gates, 34, Bennett Gahagan, 25, and Rocky Hill, 25, McCausland said. Hometowns for the four passengers weren’t available, but the public safety spokesman said all four are from Aroostook County.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash, McCausland said, but the vehicle’s occupants were not wearing seat belts. He said some were ejected, but did not say who.

Manning-Harris was taken by LifeFlight helicopter to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, where he is listed in stable condition, McCausland said. The four passengers were taken to MaineGeneral Medical Center’s Thayer Unit in Waterville, but their conditions weren’t available Tuesday morning.

The interstate was shut down for an hour and a half while crews cleaned up the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
