Former North Haven coach accused of sex crime against teen

ROCKLAND, Maine — A 26-year-old North Haven man made his initial court appearance Monday afternoon on a charge of sexual abuse of a minor.

Judge Susan Sparaco set bail at $1,500 cash or $3,000 surety for Ryan Lantagne.

Lantagne was arrested Saturday afternoon after police received a report from a relative of the 14-year-old alleged victim.

Lantagne previously had coached the North Haven boys basketball team, Knox County Sheriff Donna Dennison said Tuesday. Lantagne resigned before the team’s tournament appearance in early 2012.

An affidavit filed by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office said the girl acknowledged the two had sex on multiple occasions and that he had taken photographs and video. Police reportedly took those materials as evidence.

The court complaint states that the date of the single offense he is charged with occurred in October 2012.

Lantagne was released Monday afternoon after $1,500 cash bail was posted.
