WASHINGTON — Matthew Gagnon, who writes the Pine Tree Politics blog for the Bangor Daily News, suffered injuries Thursday in an automobile crash in the Washington, D.C., area.

A spokeswoman for the Republican Governors Association, where Gagnon works, confirmed Friday that he had been involved in a crash. She could provide no further details.

Gagnon, a Hampden native, suffered a broken back and two broken ribs and is scheduled to have surgery Saturday, his wife, Erin, posted on Facebook early Friday.

Friday evening, Gagnon posted himself: “Last night I was in a very bad car accident. I am in the hospital, where I will be for several more days.”

“I will be okay, though it will take a while,” Gagnon wrote. “Thank you everyone who has sent thoughts and prayers. I very much appreciate them.”
