Cushing residents brave snow to pass budget

CUSHING, Maine — A snowstorm that dumped nearly a foot of snow on the Midcoast was not enough to stop the annual Cushing town meeting from being held Tuesday night.

Residents approved $546,918 in total spending for municipal government in the 2013 budget year.

Nearly 30 people turned out for the meeting which lasted a little more than a half hour, according to Town Clerk Lisa Young.

Some of the larger items in the budget were $65,000 for trash disposal at the Waldoboro transfer station, $50,000 for snow removal, and $76,000 for administration.

The budget is down about $40,000 from what was adopted by voters in 2012 when 60 people turned out for the meeting.

On Monday at the polls, residents adopted an ordinance to restrict where sex offenders can live.
