ELLSWORTH, Maine — Two men from Mount Desert Island are facing drug charges after they were witnessed participating in a drug transaction, police reported.

Derek Benson, 20, and Bradford O’Coin, 24, both of Southwest Harbor were involved in a March 8 incident in a convenience store parking lot on High Street, according to Corey Bagley, supervisory special agent with Maine Drug Enforcement Agency. Following the alleged transaction, police stopped the vehicle in which Benson and O’Coin were riding, Bagley said Tuesday.

Benson is accused of selling a small amount of oxycodone pills to a third man and was charged with unlawful trafficking of scheduled drugs, Bagley said. O’Coin had a similar number of pills and was charged with unlawful possession of scheduled drugs, the agent added. Further information about the incident was unavailable.

The men were issued summonses on the respective charges and are due to appear in court in Ellsworth on May 23, 2013, Bagley said.
