BANGOR, Maine — Anthony W. Post, 19, of Auburn pled guilty to the robbery of the CVS pharmacy in Augusta in January at U.S. District Court here Tuesday afternoon.

Post, who had been residing in Auburn, but was staying for a brief time in Augusta, pled guilty to charges stemming from a robbery occurring January 22, according to U.S. Attorney Thomas E. Delahanty II.

“In the Augusta case with Post, that was a negotiated resolution, and the defendant waived his right to indictment and entered a plea of guilty to information,” said Assistant U.S. Attorney James McCarthy. “He was initially arrested on a complaint and you can’t plead guilty to a felony complaint. You can only go to court on a document called information or a grand jury indictment.”

According to court records, Post handed a pharmacy technician a note that read “Quickly & Calmly put All oxycodone in bag If not I have A gun & will start shooting No Scene!”

Post was given several bottles of pills containing $500 worth of oxycodone before he fled. No firearm was ever possessed or used. Following the robbery, Post’s photograph appeared in the news and several witnesses came forward — one of whom was his mother — and identified him to authorities.

Post was arrested in Augusta by detectives with the Augusta Police Department on Jan. 24 and turned over to special agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigation for prosecution.

Post faces a sentence of up to 20 years imprisonment, a fine of up to $250,000 and the possibility of being required to pay restitution.

Two other suspects have been arrested and charged in relation to the robbery, including Stephanie L. McCormick, 22, and Candice Eaton, 26, both from Augusta.

Post has been detained in federal custody since his Jan. 24 arrest, and will be sentenced after the completion of a presentence investigation report by the United States Probation Office.

The Jan. 22 robbery was one of three pharmacy robberies to occur this year in Maine, which saw a total of 54 last year.
