Maine Winter Sports Center biathletes record 4 wins in US Biathlon Championships

FORT KENT, Maine — Four Maine Winter Sports Center competitors finished first in their respective divisions during the US Biathlon Championships sprint event at the MWSC’s 10th Mountain Ski Center Friday.

Raleigh Goessling recorded a time of 26 minutes, 53.6 seconds over a 10-kilometer course to win the senior men’s division (ages 21 and over) while teammate Katrina Howe captured first place in the senior women’s class with a time of 26:23.8 over a 7.5K course.

Other first-place finishers for MWSC included Cody Johnson in the senior boys class (ages 15-16) with a time of 22:06.5 over a 6K course and teammate Gentle Prescott in senior girls with a 28:43.6 clocking, also over 6K.

A total of 47 biathletes competed in 13 classes on Friday, with pursuit and mass start events to be held on Saturday and Sunday.

Other divisional winners on Friday included:

MEN — Junior: Casey Smith of Elite Club (Wash.) 28:13.2 (10K); Youth: Jackob Ellingson of LNR (Minn.) 24:34.9 (7.5K); Senior Masters: Eli Walker of Ethan Allen Biathlon Center (Vt.) 27:02.3 (7.5K); and Veteran Masters: John Neal of Central (Wis.) 34:43.5 (7.5K).

WOMEN — Junior: Silke Hynes (Vt.) 30:48.8 (10K); Youth: Anna Kubek (Minn.) 21:48.3 (7.5K); Masters: Danielle Bean (Ethan Allen) 30:16.5 (6K); Senior Masters: Dolores Berube (New Brunswick) 31:44.1 (6K).
