BANGOR, Maine — The Bangor Police Department will conduct its first Citizens’ Police Academy, starting Wednesday, March 13.

The eight-week program consists of Wednesday evening classes running from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Main Street police station, said Sgt. Paul Edwards.

Classes include patrol overview, K9 demonstrations, criminal investigations, drug enforcement, crime scene investigation, SWAT, bomb squad and OUI enforcement.

Participants will not be trained as police officers, and there is no cost to attend. The purpose of the classes is to provide citizens with a working knowledge of the city’s police department.
