Gardiner, Wells wrestlers win New England wrestling titles

Peter DelGallo of Gardiner and Connor Sheehan of Fryeburg Academy won individual titles over the weekend at the 49th annual New England Interscholastic Wrestling Championships held at the Providence Career and Technical Center in Providence, R.I.

DelGallo won the 106-pound title by edging Joseph Rossetti of Glastonbury, Conn., 3-2 in the championship match while Sheehan defeated Troy Gassaway of Mount Anthony, Vt., 3-1 to win the 113-pound crown.

Peter DelGallo’s brother Dan DelGallo finished second in the 138-pound class, while Brunswick’s Jared Jensen earned runner-up honors in the 170-pound weight class.

Other Maine wrestlers to earn All-New England status were Cody Hughes of Marshwood of South Berwick, third at 152 pounds; Colin Sevigny of Wells, fourth at 126; Tyler Craig of Skowhegan, fifth at 113; Victor Irwin of Brewer, fifth at 220; and Coleman Powers of Camden Hills of Rockport, sixth at 145 pounds.
