By Dawn Gagnon, BDN Staff

ORONO, Maine — Contests are shaping up for two Town Council openings and a seat on the RSU 26 school committee that will be filled in local elections Tuesday, March 12. All three of the positions up for grabs are for three years.

Candidates for the two council seats are incumbents Mark Haggerty and Thomas Spitz and resident Daniel LaPointe, Town Clerk Donna Emerson said.

Margaret Lukens and Jennifer Mehnert are seeking the RSU 26 position now held by Eric Voelker, who is not seeking re-election, Emerson said.

Residents are invited to meet the council and school committee hopefuls during candidates’ night, set for 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, in the Town Council Chambers.

Questions for candidates can be submitted by calling 866-2556 or by email at info@orono.org. The forum also will be broadcast on the town’s local government access cable channel.

Elections will take place from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, also at the council chambers.
