BREWER, Maine — Hockey Weekend Across America takes place this weekend at more than 200 sites across the country, including Penobscot Ice Arena.

As part of the weekend, Brewer Youth Hockey is one of six youth hockey associations in Maine that have set aside ice time for Try Hockey for Free clinics to introduce the sport to newcomers ages 4-9. All six are set for Saturday.

Brewer (www.brewerhockey.org) is hosting its session at PIA from 12:40 p.m. to 1:40 p.m. Presque Isle Youth Hockey (www.piyh.org) will conduct a session starting at 7:50 a.m. at Northern Maine Forum.

The Portland Junior Pirates (jrpirates.pucksystems2.com) will hold two sessions, one at the MHG Ice Centre in Saco and the other at the Colisee in Lewiston, both running from 7:50-8:45 a.m.; the Skating Association of Maine (www.maineskaters.com) will hold one at the Ice Vault in Hallowell from 2-3 p.m.; and Maranacook Area Youth Hockey (www.maranacookyouthhockey.com) will hold its clinic at Bonnefond Ice Arena at Kents Hill School from 2-4 p.m.

For more information, check the individual associations’ websites.

Most sites will have a limited amount of hockey gear available, so arriving early is strongly suggested.

The NHL is a sponsor of Try Hockey for Free clinics as part of the initiative to encourage children to exercise.
