Portland woman suffers severe burns in Sunday fire

By Judy Harrison, BDN Staff

PORTLAND, Maine — A local woman suffered severe burns Sunday morning in a fire at her home, according to the City of Portland.

Portland fire crews found the woman, described as being in her 50s, outside her residence in the 200 block of Burnside Avenue just before noon, according to a press release issued by Nicole Clegg, the director of communications for Portland.

The woman, whose name has not been released, was transported to Maine Medical Center, then flown to a Boston-area hospital, the press release said.

The fire was extinguished quickly even though snow had covered the closest fire hydrant, Clegg said.

The house suffered extensive damage.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Portland Fire Department’s investigation unit and the Maine Fire Marshal’s office.
