PORTLAND, Maine — Florida-based Island Hospitality Management LLC announced Tuesday it has taken over management of Portland’s 122-room Hampton Inn on Fore Street.
The hotel opened in August 2011 under the management of Buffalo Lodging Associates, credited with helping revive the property where the former Jordan’s Meats factory stood and playing a key role in a small development boom for Portland’s India Street neighborhood.
A second phase of the meat-plant redevelopment features an $18 million condominium and retail project approved by city planners last year. Also nearby are the proposed so-called Bay House project on the India Street site of the former Village Cafe restaurant.
“This hotel has been open only a short time and is still ramping up,” said Tim Walker, president and CEO of Island Hospitality Management LLC, in a statement. “We have an affinity for helping hotels realize their full potential. We already operate in the Portland market, which will allow for synergies that can benefit both hotels.
“We continue to have an aggressive appetite to add to our third-party management portfolio,” he noted. “In addition to award-winning operations from a number of premium hotel brands, we have the financial reporting systems that are required by sophisticated institutional investors.”
The addition of the Portland hotel brings the Island Hospitality portfolio to 78 hotels in 22 states.
