AUGUSTA, Maine — Firefighters from four different communities were working to extinguish a blaze on Penobscot Street on Tuesday afternoon.
Augusta Fire Chief Dan Guimond said crews were dispatched to the four-story apartment building shortly after noon. Firefighters from Augusta, Winthrop, Chelsea, Gardiner and the Togus veterans hospital were still on scene as of 3 p.m.
Guimond said flames were shooting out of a third-story window when firefighters arrived.
The chief said it’s unclear where the fire started and a cause has not been determined. The fire marshal’s office went to the scene Tuesday, Guimond said.
