Coaches: Maine women must avoid foul trouble; men need cohesiveness in games vs. Stony Brook

Coach Richard Barron’s keys to the game: “We need to stay out of foul trouble. We have to handle the ball against their pressure and have a team effort and performance, not from two or three players.”

Game notes: The Bears must win to avoid tying a program-record 16-game losing streak. The Seawolves have lost two of three, including Wednesday’s 70-59 decision at UMBC. The Bears beat SBU twice last season, including in the AE tourney. SBU gets to the foul line often, but is shooting only 53 percent in league play.

Time, site: 2 p.m. Saturday, Pritchard Gym, Stony Brook, N.Y.

Records: Maine 8-11 (3-3 America East), Stony Brook 14-5 (5-1)

Series, last meeting: Maine leads 15-10, Stony Brook 55-48 on 2/26/12

Key players: Maine — 6-3 G Justin Edwards (17.5 points per game, 4.9 rebounds per game), 6-8 F Alasdair Fraser (13.8 ppg, 8.7 rebounds per game), 6-3 G Xavier Pollard (10.1 ppg, 4.3 assists per game), 6-6 G Jon Mesghna (8.2 ppg, 3.8 rpg), 6-9 F Mike Allison (7.1 ppg, 7.7 rpg), 6-8 F Till Gloger (3.6 ppg, 2.2 rpg); Stony Brook — 6-8 F Jameel Warney (12.3 ppg, 7.4 rpg), 6-2 G Dave Coley (12.0 ppg, 4.3 rpg), 6-0 G Anthony Jackson (11.4 ppg), 6-5 G Tommy Brenton (8.2 ppg, 8.1 rpg, 4.7 apg), 6-1 G Marcus Rouse (5.7 ppg)

Coach Ted Woodward’s keys to the game: “We have to play with great cohesiveness and energy on Stony Brook’s home court. We need to stop their post and perimeter game, and have physical execution on offense and on the boards.”

Game notes: The Bears look to build on Wednesday’s 71-68 win over then-first-place Vermont as they face first-place Stony Brook, which is 6-1 at home. Pollard, who was suspended from the Vermont game for a violation of team policy, is on the trip. Warney is AE’s top shooter and SBU is allowing a league-low 58.5 ppg.
