PARIS, Maine — A single-wide trailer occupied by a family of four was destroyed by fire early Thursday morning.

Paris Fire Chief Brad Frost said firefighters responded to the scene at 87 Durgin Road at approximately 2:43 a.m.

He said the subzero temperatures didn’t give firefighters a whole lot of trouble, although water freezing on the ground made things slippery at the scene.

Frost said the four people in the house — a woman, two teenage girls and one of the girls’ boyfriend — managed to get out safely. The woman’s husband was out delivering newspapers when the blaze broke out, Frost added.

The two teens were transported to Stephens Hospital in Norway for treatment of smoke inhalation and later released, the chief said.

The fire was under control in about an hour, Frost said. He said the state fire marshal’s office has been called in to help determine a cause.

The home was considered a total loss, Frost said. The family was renting the trailer and did not have renter’s insurance. The owner was also uninsured, he said.
