Storm postpones LPG hearings in Searsport

SEARSPORT, Maine — A public hearing scheduled for tonight on Searsport’s controversial liquid propane gas project has been postponed because of the snowstorm, according to town officials.

The hearing, planned for 6 p.m. Wednesday at Searsport District High School, was set to feature former White House counterterrorism adviser Richard A. Clarke, whose consulting firm has recommended that the town of Searsport not proceed with the $40 million, 23 million gallon liquid propane gas terminal and storage tank project.

The hearing with Clarke will instead begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, according to a town clerk. Subsequent sessions will be held beginning at 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, and then later in the month, the official said. It was not clear exactly when the late January hearings would be held.
