AUGUSTA, Maine — An Augusta teenager is facing a burglary charge after an alert witness caught him in the act on Friday, police said Tuesday.

A neighbor had tipped off police that Jordan Ellis, 18, was attempting to break into a residence on Blair Road shortly after noon, according to Augusta Deputy Chief Jared Mills.

Mills said the neighbor observed Ellis jimmying the locks.

It didn’t take police long to track Ellis down, according to Mills. He was taken into custody just after 1:30 p.m. and charged with burglary and theft. Mills did not disclose what was taken from the house.

Ellis was brought to Kennebec County Jail, where bail was set at $1,000, Mills said. He is due to appear in court on Feb. 26.
