LEBANON, Maine — A woman was seriously injured Thursday afternoon when her vehicle was rear-ended by a tractor-trailer.

Chief Samantha Cole of Lebanon Rescue said the woman, whose name was not released, was heading westbound on Route 202 when she stopped to make a left-hand turn into the Colonial Home Mobile Home Park when the truck struck her GMC Jimmy.

Cole said the truck driver, whose name also wasn’t released, was blinded by the setting sun.

“That time of day the sun is a major problem on that road,” she said.

A third vehicle went into a snowbank attempting to avoid the SUV and the truck, according to Cole. The female driver of that vehicle suffered minor injuries and was taken to Frisbie Memorial Hospital in Rochester, N.H.

The driver of the Jimmy had to be extricated with the Jaws of Life and was transported to Maine Medical Center with injuries that were not considered life threatening, Cole said. The truck driver was shaken but not injured.

Both vehicles were demolished in the accident. Route 202 was closed for two hours while crews cleaned up the scene.
