Jane Thibodeau’s talent lies in cooking. Professionally the Old Town woman has shared her love of cooking with clients since 1995 through her business, Jane’s Catering.
“I love to feed people,” she said. “Food is love.”
Thibodeau knows what it takes to feed large groups. Her own household started with six stepchildren and grew to seven. “There were never less than 9 or 10 at the dinner table,” she said. That meant a lot of food to prepare and a lot of love to share.
So it’s not surprising that when she opened Jane’s Catering the focus would be on food that fed the stomach and the soul. Working out of her state licensed kitchen, the bright and cheery space allows her to deliver a business infused with love, flavor, and some good old-fashioned technique.
“Everything is homemade [and made by me],” Thibodeau said. “Even if its a simple menu, I try to give it an elegant presentation.”
To amp up the presentation, Thibodeau uses silver platters, crystal glassware, and special presentation pieces to display the homemade food.
In addition, Thibodeau is devoted to service.
“I don’t go in and just drop it off,” Thibodeau said. “I’m willing to stay and put the food out and take care of it all evening and clean up the kitchen.”
Handling the details is a big part of hiring a caterer, she noted. The caterer should not only produce food that delights the taste buds, but provide service that ensures guests are well fed and the host is relaxed.
That’s part of why Thibodeau loves weddings: Helping make dreams come true while eating delicious food. The first step with any client, but wedding clients in particular, is defining the menu and deciding on the “look” of the food platters. In addition, by offering home cooked delicacies, Thibodeau continues a tradition of delivering pleasing menus and specialty desserts.
Clients choose her, she said, because of her longevity in the community, her ability to encapsulate their food vision into delicious reality, and the reputation she’s developed over time.
