North Berwick man dies after car hits tree

By Andrea Bulfinch, Foster's Daily Democrat

BERWICK, Maine — A North Berwick man was pronounced dead at Wentworth Douglass Hospital in Dover after succumbing to injuries received in a serious motor vehicle accident Friday evening.

Justin Glass, 20, was extracted from his 1999 Nissan Altima by the Berwick Fire Department after striking a tree on Old Sanford Road at Hanson Road in Berwick. Sgt. Jeffrey Pilkington said Glass had been traveling from North Berwick toward the Route 9 area in a direction heading toward Berwick.

He said Hanson Road is considered a throughway and there is no stop sign in the location where Glass struck the tree.

Officers already on patrol in the area located the vehicle at about 3:40 a.m. Saturday morning.

The accident remains under investigation, but officials do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.

Glass was transported to the hospital by an American Medical Response ambulance with life-threatening injuries and pronounced dead on arrival. He was the only person in the vehicle.

Anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to contact Sgt. Jeffrey Pilkington or Greggory Sevingy at the Berwick Police Department at 207-698-1136.
