POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. — Devin Price scored a season-high 28 points and Chavaughn Lewis posted a career-best 27 as Marist College rolled past the University of Maine 94-69 Sunday in a nonconference men’s basketball matchup.

Chavaughn made 10 of 19 shots from the field and Price hit 9 of 17 for the Red Foxes, who had their best shooting outing of the season, hitting 54.8 percent (34 of 62) of shots from the field.

After 11 lead changes over the first 5 minutes, Marist (4-6) took the lead for good, 13-12, behind a dunk from Manny Thomas. A 3-pointer by Price put Marist ahead 40-31 with 2:37 left to play.

Dorvell Carter scored Marist’s final eight points of the half to send the Red Foxes into the break with a 48-31 lead.

Justin Edwards’ 23 points paced Maine (3-8), which had four starters in double-figures but got just five points off the bench. Marist’s bench contributed 21 points.

Xavier Pollard added 15 points and four assists for Maine while Mike Allison contributed 10 points and 13 rebounds. Alasdair Fraser chipped in with 12 points and nine rebounds.

Marist took a 17-12 lead, but two Edwards free throws and a steal by Pollard finished off by a Shaun Lawton layup cut the lead to one.

However, Marist caught fire and Maine could get no closer than seven the rest of the half as Marist took a 48-31 lead into intermission after going 18-for-32 from the field in the first half while Maine struggled to a 12-for-31 effort.

Maine was led by Edwards who had 10 points in the first half and Pollard who added seven.

The Black Bears scored four quick points to start the second half, and following a Marist basket, Edwards made a nice spin move underneath the basket and converted a layup.

The Black Bears got a stop, and Edwards got fouled and converted two free throws to cut the lead to 11 before Maine got another stop and Pollard raced ahead and made a fast-break layup over a Marist defender to cut the lead to 50-43 with 15:43 left.

Following a Marist bucket, Edwards got fouled in the lane while making a jumper to make it 52-46.

The Black Bears continued to pressure and cut the lead to 55-50, but Marist responded with an 8-2 run midway through the second half and took a 63-52 lead.

The Black Bears tried to cut into the lead, but Marist responded every time to pull away and shot 54.8 percent for the game while Maine shot 38.5 percent.
