OLD TOWN, Maine — A 23-year-old Carmel man was killed early Sunday morning when the car he was driving crashed into a utility pole. The impact threw the man from the vehicle and left three passengers with injuries.
Jonathan Worster was driving a 2007 Dodge Caliber, which struck the pole and rolled over, ejecting Worster, Old Town police Sgt. Michael Hashey said Sunday night. The crash happened around 4:50 a.m. on Main Street near Stillwater Avenue. He was transported to Eastern Maine Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
A 23-year-old man from Brewer was trapped inside the car when emergency crews arrived and had to be extricated by firefighters. He is in critical condition, according to Hashey, who did not identify the man.
Two other unidentified passengers, a 24-year-old Old Town woman and a 21-year-old Old Town man, managed to exit the vehicle after the crash and were transported to the EMMC, Hashey said.
Speed was a likely factor in the crash, which is being reconstructed by Old Town police with assistance from Maine State Police, the sergeant said.
