WATERBORO, Maine — Two York County men are behind bars Thursday after a burglary in which 10 handguns were stolen from a residence, police say.

Nathan Desfosses, 22, of Shapleigh and Travis Wakefield, 22, of Lyman are each facing a charge of Class B burglary, according to York County Maj. Bill King. They are being held at the York County Jail and are scheduled to appear in court Friday.

Deputies were dispatched to a Waterboro residence at 3:20 p.m. Wednesday after a man reported he came home and found two men fleeing from his residence, according to King.

He quickly discovered 10 handguns, eight of which were loaded, had been stolen, King said.

Trooper Matt Williams and his canine partner Landy arrived to track the suspects, and the dog found the guns in the woods while the suspects were spotted a short distance from where the weapons were discovered.

The incident remains under investigation, King said.
