ORLAND, Maine — An early-morning fire consumed a garage Thursday on Gray Meadow Road in Orland. No one was hurt in the blaze.

A report of fire came in to Orland at 5:44 a.m. Crews from that town and neighboring Bucksport responded and contained the flames, saving the nearby home, according to Orland Fire Department’s public information officer, Sharon Bray.

Bray credited the high turnout of firefighters, who responded quickly to the early-morning call.

“We had an excellent, excellent personnel response,” Bray said Thursday. “We had 16 firefighters from Orland, plus the crew from Bucksport.”

The fire was extinguished and the scene was cleared by 8 a.m., Bray said. Investigators from the Office of the Maine State Fire Marshal were on scene to determine what ignited the blaze, but Sgt. Tim York said the extent of damage will preclude finding a cause of the fire, and the case has been closed.

Thursday’s incident is the most recent in a number of fires in the region recently, including a fatal fire in Orrington on Nov. 10 that killed a man and his three young children, a fire that destroyed the home of a family in Ellsworth, on Nov. 8, and a fire in Bucksport that levelled a two-story home in Bucksport on Nov. 12.
