Ruby Alice (Ireland) King

HOWLAND – Ruby Alice (Ireland) King, 86, beloved wife and mother and lifelong resident of Howland, passed away Nov. 29, 2012, at her home. Born Aug. 9, 1926, in Chester, Ruby was the only child of Lewisey and Loren Ireland, and spent most of her life in Chester and Howland.
She was a lifelong member of Eastern Star since 1952. Her interests included reading books, exploring the world beyond Howland through her extensive library. Her fascination with birds gave her an intimate knowledge of birds, their life history, sounds, and behaviors, and she could easily identify the species that inhabited the area. She also was a fan of NASCAR and the late Dale Earnhardt and son, Dale Jr.
A devoted and beloved wife and mother, Ruby is survived by her husband, Leeman King; sons, Gary and Mike, both of Howland, Dale King and Pam Leveille of West Enfield, Stuart King and Diane Gasch of Edinburg, Timothy and Andrea King of Florida; daughters, Jill King and Tom Hunter, and Wendy King; and grandchildren, Dawn Flynn of Florida, Nathan and Christopher King, both of Bangor, Felicia King of Connecticut, Jamie and Jeremy King, both of West Enfield, Christy Gasch of Medford, Cassie King of Howland, and Lauren Russell of Skowhegan.
Ruby will be laid to rest Tuesday after a brief viewing 6-8 p.m. Monday at Clay Funeral Home, Lincoln. Those who desire, may may make contributions in Ruby King’s memory to The Diabetic Foundation. Those who wish may sign an online register and leave written condolences at
