By Sun Journal

PERU, Maine – At least one person was killed early Thursday in a crash on Route 108 near the Peru-Rumford town line.

Early reports were that a Dixfield man in his early 20s was killed and that several others were injured in the early morning wreck.

At 3 a.m., police blocked off a long section of Route 108 while rescue crews responded and police began an investigation.

Officers from the Oxford County Sheriff’s and Rumford Police departments remained at the scene later Thursday morning. The names of the people injured in the wreck were not immediately available.

A source said the dead man was a Dirigo High School graduate who had been riding in a car with several others when it crashed into another vehicle.

It was not immediately clear how many people were involved or how the crash occurred. Investigators were expected to remain at the scene into Thursday afternoon.
