ST. ALBANS – Gordon O. Withee, 74, went to be with his Lord Nov. 15, 2012. He was born March 28, 1938, in Hartland, a son of Frank and Lois (Otis) Withee Jr.
He left high school to join the U.S. Air Force, where he was an aircraft mechanic. He taxied and pre-flight tested C-54 cargo planes. He also served in the Air National Guard for four years and was a staff sergeant in the Army Reserves for 10 years. After leaving the military, Gordon received his GED from Dexter Regional High School. He was employed at Dexter Shoe Co., Dexter, for 35 years. Gordon was a member of First Baptist Church, Dexter, for more than 30 years and most recently was a member of Pleasant Street Christian Church, Corinna. Gordon had battled with ALS for the last five years and spent the last year at the hospice unit in Togus. During his disease, at home and at hospice, his positive attitude and faith in God was an inspiration to all those who visited and cared for him. The family wishes to especially thank Gordon’s caregivers at home and at Togus.
He is survived by his wife, Waneta of St. Albans; a son, John and wife, Cathy, of Tampa, Fla.; two daughters and their husbands, Lisa and Peter Nagle of Farmington and Heidi and Steve Lawson of Dexter; two brothers and their wives, Alton and Pauline of Eddington and Frank and Barbara of Greene; two sisters, Glenice Hodgson of Cape Elizabeth and Joyce King of Rowley, Mass.; stepchildren, Jon and wife, Jen Hanson, of Palmyra, Joni Boissonneault of Windham, Wanda and husband, Dennis Goodrow, of Corinth, Johnnie and wife, Camelia Neal, of Hartland, Bonnie and husband, Kennie Moreau, of Derry, N.H., and Douglas Neal and friend, Bobbiejo, of St. Albans; six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 12 stepgrandchildren, nine great-stepgrandchildren; and a very special “granddaughter,” who helped care for him, Alicia Jacobs of St. Albans. He was predeceased by a brother, Clinton.
Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23, at Crosby & Neal, 117 Main St., Newport. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, at Pleasant Street Christian Church, Corinna.
