ORONO, Maine — The woman suspected of robbing the Circle K store on Stillwater Avenue on Sept. 9 was arrested Friday at the Penobscot Judicial Center in Bangor.
Shayna Hill-Pelkey, 22, of Greenbush was taken into custody on a felony robbery warrant when she showed up at the courthouse after an Orono detective informed her that she was wanted on a warrant, Orono police Capt. Josh Ewing said Friday.
Ewing said the robbery charge was elevated to Class A status because she allegedly indicated she was armed, although no weapon was displayed. If convicted, Hill-Pelkey faces up to 30 years in prison and a fine of up to $50,000.
Ewing said Orono police were able to identify Hill-Pelkey as the suspect because of tips that came in from the public after surveillance images were released via local media outlets.
In a statement issued shortly after the robbery, Orono police Detective Derek Dinsmore said the incident happened about 1:38 a.m. Sept. 9, when a woman walked into the convenience store and displayed a note demanding all of the cash in the register and a pack of cigarettes. The note indicated that she had a weapon.
Dinsmore said at the time that the robber made off with a pack of Marlboro Red shorts and cash.
Ewing said Friday that it was a small amount of cash.
