GORHAM, Maine — A junior at the University of Southern Maine is facing arson charges after allegedly setting three fires at his USM dormitory early Monday morning, police said.

Jordan Maroon, 20, of Winslow was arrested and charged with three counts of arson, according to Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland.

USM police and state fire marshals began investigating the fires after they were set in a first-floor trash can near the entrance of Philipi Hall around 4:30 a.m., according to McCausland. Two posters also were set ablaze. Maroon has been a resident in the dorm, McCausland said.

Nobody was injured, and no damage was reported to the dormitory, which houses about 200 students, McCausland said.

Maroon was booked into the Cumberland County Jail.
