SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — A South Portland man was arrested on Sunday after an assault on his girlfriend, according to police.

Jeffrey Vandermeiren, 44, is facing charges of aggravated domestic violence assault and domestic violence terrorizing, South Portland police Lt. Frank Clark said Wednesday afternoon.

After a disturbance at Thatcher’s, a pub on Foden Road, Vandermeiren headed to his girlfriend’s residence on Elmwood Ave late Saturday night, Clark said.

Police were called to the scene when the woman advised them Vandermeiren had choked her, ripped her earrings out and threatened to kill her as he fled the residence, Clark said.

A warrant was issued for Vandermeiren’s arrest, and on Sunday, he was picked up by Windham police at his workplace in that town, Clark said, and brought to the Cumberland County Jail.

Vandermeiren is being held at the jail on $15,000 bail.
