BANGOR, Maine — Police responded to a reported burglary in progress early Thursday on Webster Avenue North but instead found three people arguing about the theft of marijuana, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said.
When police arrived at about 1:20 a.m., they found the three in the hallway and a broken front door, the sergeant said.
He said someone had taken something from a grocery bag, and the others gave chase.
Bottles were thrown, people were calling each other names and the front door was broken when one person went inside in an attempt to get away, Edwards said.
The victim originally told police that $100 was stolen from the grocery bag but later changed his story, Edwards said.
“It wasn’t $100 cash, it was $100 in marijuana,” the sergeant said. “No marijuana was found.”
Stephen Sprague, 61, a transient, faces a charge of criminal mischief in connection with the breaking of the door, Edwards said. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)
