Halloween set to happen a few days early at Bangor Mall

BANGOR, Maine — The upcoming Halloween celebration at the Bangor Mall will look a little different this year.

In past years, parents and their costumed kids have been welcomed into the mall on Oct. 31 for trick-or-treating from storefront to storefront. The mall is trying something new this year: Malloween.

“It is much more interactive and provides more fun for our young guests,” mall General Manager James Gerety said Thursday morning.

The event, geared toward children ages 3-8, starts at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27. Gerety said he hopes holding the event during the weekend rather than on Halloween, which falls on a Wednesday, means more parents and children will be able to participate.

Malloween will still feature trick-or-treating, as well as costume contests and prizes. Gerety said this year’s event will be “much more interactive for our kids.”

“This is something I think we’re going to build on,” he said.

The events all will take place in the mall’s center court area. A Simon Kidgits Club booth also will be set up. The Kidgits Club provides its members with special offers and access to mall events, but both club members and mall guests may participate in Malloween, Gerety said.
