      Because we all know that non-home built aircraft NEVER have any mechanical malfunctions …..

      Most likely a kit and the aircraft is required to be certified at various stages of the assembly process.

      Lot’s of homebuilts flying in Maine. Most are better built, better cared for, and as reliable as one “off the shelf.” I’ve ridden in and flown several, finding them excellent flight platforms with new avionics and flight controls. You should be more concerned with all the planes flying that carry paying passengers.

      As noted, these aircraft are inspected by the FAA . Before they can fly any distance, they are required to fly 40 hours for certification.
