Berwick bank cross-dresser arrested in robbery case

BERWICK, Maine — Two individuals suspected of robbing the Kennebunk Savings Bank last Friday were arrested late Wednesday night in Massachusetts.
According to Berwick Police Capt. Jerry Locke, Michel David D’Angelo, 33, and Jennica Miller, 21, both of the Fall River, Mass., area, were arrested around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday by members of both the FBI and Middleborough Police Department.
On Friday, Sept. 21, police received a report of a bank robbery at approximately 11:54 a.m. at the Kennebunk Savings Bank, located at 2 School St.
The robber, described by witnesses on scene as a man dressed as a woman, was wearing a red hooded sweatshirt, red or pink pants and white sneakers.
The individual had long brown hair with white surgical tape on the knuckles of both hands. He also was carrying a black-and-white checkered purse.
The robber, who came into the bank and made a verbal demand for cash, also said he had a bomb. The suspect, who never displayed any weapons during the robbery, later fled on foot on Back Road.
Last Friday’s bank robbery occurred within minutes of a reported stabbing at a residence only one mile from the Kennebunk Savings Bank. Police believe the stabbing report, which turned out to be false, may have been used as a diversion for Friday’s robbery.
Also last Friday, police apprehended a redheaded suspect after a chase through several backyards shortly after the robbery. Police still are determining whether this individual, who was interviewed and later released, played any role in these events.
According to Locke, both D’Angelo and Miller are being held by authorities in Massachusetts on fugitive from justice charges and other charges out of Massachusetts. The investigation is continuing.
